'Bitmoji is basically a personalized emoticon, designed by you, to look like a more delightful, caricatured version of your actual self' (Parker). Bitmojis were originally made from bitstrips where these are more individualized by each person who creates a bitmoji. The founders of Bitmoji were first the founders of Bitstrips. Bitstrips were co-developed by Jacob Blackstock and Jesse brown, it was made for an easier way to create comic strips without needing any artistic ability. Their own use of comics influenced their motivation in bitmojis. In December 2012, Bitstrips were launched for Facebook, and by July 2013 Bitstrips had 10 million users on Facebook. Then 2 years after launching Bitstrips on Facebook, they then launched Bitmoji, which was 'a spin-off app that allows users to create stickers featuring Bitstrips characters in various templates'. By 2016 they were introduced to Snapchat, and allowed users to link both their snapchat and bitmoji together. Their company continued to operate out of Toronto, but Bitstrips were then shut down to potentially only focus on the growth of Bitmoji. In our society today we have become a very visual in the way we want to express ourselves by using iMessaging. Most of human communication is by using our cell phones which have included a lot of need for visual interaction. Texts can easily be interpreted in certain ways so with the help of bitmojis it is easier to express your feelings and beliefs.
